Benefits of low-carb diet for lower blood pressure

Studies have shown that it’s hard to beat a low carbohydrate diet for lower blood pressure. This type of diet is more effective than some blood pressure medications and it also helps people lose weight, which increase blood pressure reduction.

Overweight people with hypertension and other conditions were split into two groups: one on a low-carb diet and the other on a common blood pressure drug combined with a low-fat diet. Both groups lost about 10% of their body weight and showed other health improvements.

But 47% of those in the low-carb group were able to reduce or stop their medication versus only 21% in the drug group to do so.
