Crop Rotation Key To Avoiding Fungus Problems

Many farmers and home gardeners have discovered the value of crop rotation in preventing many different diseases among their crops or plants. Funguses like verticillium thrive when year after year the same types of solanaceous crops are planted in the same soil. It is much better to rotate with grains or cover crops to avoid these issues and also to keep the soil from becoming depleted. If the fungus is severe and persistent a longer rotation for four to six years may be needed. There are also EPA approved and environmentally friendly fungicides available that will help with non-resistant strains.
